Land Sale Project Update

We are pleased to report that the land sale planning application submitted to the local authority has now been validated and we will be informed of the District Council’s decision by 5 April.

As a reminder, we have sold a piece of land (subject to planning) which comprises the former caretaker’s bungalow and small section of land adjacent to it (c0.4ha). This scrubland is not used for any recreational or educational purpose and is surplus to the requirements of the school. The proposal  involves the demolition of the existing derelict bungalow and erection of 7 residential dwellings. The DfE have approved the sale on the condition that the proceeds are ring fenced to realise the development of a 3G All-Weather floodlit sports pitch and associated car parking on the other side of our school grounds.

In terms of the 3G pitch, there is an identified need within the local area and we are excited by the excellent opportunities this new facility will provide our students and the local community. It will complement our outstanding indoor facilities and allow year round usage at a time when regular participation in sport and leisure activities is seen as increasingly important in maintaining good physical and mental health.

Full details of the planning application can be found on the TDC website and we would encourage you to comment in support of this application via the following link.

Please feel free to contact Executive Headteacher, Jeremy Garner directly should you require any further details regarding this exciting project on headteacher@destafford.org.uk
