Personal Development
At de Stafford, personal development is at the heart of our ethos. We are committed to nurturing confident, resilient, and responsible young people. Well planned personal, social, health and economic education, coupled with relationships and sex education, sees pupils learn to treat each other with respect. Pupils have good opportunities for spiritual and cultural development. External validation supports the recognition of the strength of the programme including the Surrey Games Mark and Healthy Schools Awards.
Beyond the classroom, the school community supports local and national charities including a Charity ‘RAG’ (Raising and Giving) Week. In 2024, the whole school community came together to raise over £2000 for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices and annually supports the Macmillan Coffee Morning with a well-attended community-wide event.
Our comprehensive programme includes:
- Curriculum time dedicated to personal, social, health, and economic education (PSHE) through specific timetabled lessons and age-specific drop-down sessions.
- Assemblies that celebrate diversity, promote British values, and encourage students to reflect on important issues.
- Form time: Alongside our well-planned assembly themes, our weekly ‘Issue of the Week’, delivered in morning Form Time, provides the opportunity for students to develop their discussion/debating skills when examining a current affairs story.
We believe that supporting students’ personal growth is just as important as academic achievement, and we are proud of the caring, inclusive community we have built. The school's approach focuses on building character, moral purpose, and essential life skills and these are reflected in the prominent School Council and uptake of other leadership roles.
