Matilda Showcase 2024

Excitement is building as the talented students from Years 7-11 gear up for their upcoming production of the beloved musical Matilda.

The selection process for the cast was an inclusive audition, inviting all students to showcase their acting and singing talents. The chosen cast members were recently in for a real treat as usual rehearsals were sprinkled with a special touch of West End magic.

Lauren Varnham, a seasoned performer with an impressive background in London's West End, recently visited de Stafford School to conduct a three-hour workshop with the Matilda cast. Trained at the renowned Laine Theatre Arts, Lauren has graced the stage in productions like High School Musical, Carousel, Hairspray, and most recently, Matilda.

The students were not only fortunate to have Lauren's expertise but also thrilled to receive guidance from someone with such a rich performing arts background. Her workshop focused on honing the cast's skills, providing valuable insights into the nuances of stage performance and character portrayal. She even choreographed one of the shows famous numbers, Revolting Children, adding her professional touch to ensure the performance is nothing short of extraordinary.

The opportunity for the students to work closely with someone of Lauren's calibre is truly incredible. As they prepare for their final performance, the cast is not only learning the art of stagecraft but also gaining first hand knowledge from a West End star. This experience is sure to leave a lasting impact, inspiring these young performers to reach new heights in their artistic endeavours.

The students can’t wait to share their hard work with you in March. It will undoubtedly be a showcase of talent, dedication, and the magic that happens when young performers are given the opportunity to shine.
