Good news for de Stafford
We are delighted that our school has been rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted and recognised as offering a “welcoming environment for pupils” where “pupils are kept safe” and “behave well with each other and staff”.
Inspectors praised the high educational standards we work towards for all our pupils and noted that “teachers work hard to support pupils”. The inspectors saw that “relationships between teachers and pupils are positive, leading to a productive atmosphere for learning in classrooms.”
We are particularly pleased that inspectors recognised that “pupils are well supported in learning to respect each other and to be ready for later life”, specifically highlighting how our “well-planned personal, social, health and economic education, coupled with relationships and sex education, sees pupils learn to treat each other with respect”.
The report notes how the school manages pupils’ behaviour well, carefully monitoring it and taking action where needed. Staff are “consistent in praising good behaviour and managing any poor behaviour.” As a result, most students follow the rules.
The inspection report commended our well-planned curriculum, noting that learning is logically sequenced to develop pupils’ knowledge over time and key stage 3 provides a firm foundation, building on learning from primary school and setting pupils up for GCSEs.
The inspectors recognised that our “teachers usually have strong expertise to teach their subjects”, often checking how well pupils have understood learning, giving extra support or explanation where needed.
We are delighted the inspectors noted that “parents are very positive about the school’s work, saying in particular that communication with them is good.”
Head of School, Jeff Place, said “We are delighted that our Ofsted visitors really got under the skin of the school and recognised the inclusive community we have where students are safe, happy, and taught well. Whilst it is pleasing to receive the affirmation, this inspection reflects what happens in de Stafford School day-in-day-out. We are very proud of the journey we are on and committed to seeking to continually improve.”
